Dr. Taylor grew up in a small town outside of Birmingham, Alabama where he and his siblings were raised by his mother and grandparents. He attributes his first interest in medicine to his pediatrician, whom he watched with great intrigue each time the physician repaired one of the dozens of lacerations Dr. Taylor and his brothers sustained from running through woods, playing various sports, and not uncommonly rough-housing with one another.
En route to graduating as valedictorian of his high-school class, Dr. Taylor earned an academic scholarship to attend Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. He was drawn to the Jesuit school’s mission of nurturing the mind, body, and spirit and endeavored likewise to pursue each. Despite accumulating a couple of concussions while competing on the club rugby team, he graduated summa cum laude, the first in his family to attain a bachelor’s degree.
Next he attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine where Dr. Taylor was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society based on his excellent academic performance, professionalism, leadership, research activities, and services to the community. He also received the UAB Clinical Excellence Award for patient care and finished Magna Cum Laude with his medical doctorate degree.
From there, Dr. Taylor was selected from among the nation’s top medical students for a position in the integrated plastic and reconstructive surgery program at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Because an integrated 6-year program is dedicated solely to specialized training in plastic surgery, it is considered to be one of the most competitive and highly sought after residency programs. During his training, Dr. Taylor also had the privilege of rotating at several renowned institutions where he learned the complex and intricate operative skills and techniques necessary to excel at plastic and reconstructive surgery: M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, The Cronin-Brauer Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic, Shriners Burn Hospital for Children, the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery, The Houston Plastic & Reconstructive Center, and the Plastic Surgery Institute of Texas.
After completing his residency, Dr. Taylor sought additional sub-specialty training, completing a hand surgery fellowship at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute with a focus on congenital hand differences. His surgical education culminated with a craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta, including a sabbatical study at the Hôpital Necker-Enfants Malades Center for Craniofacial Dysostosis in Paris, France.
Dr. Taylor truly loves the practice of plastic surgery, considering it a privilege to work with his patients in restoring and rejuvenating their form and function. It is the tremendous positive impact on people’s lives following their physical transformations that he finds so rewarding and gratifying in his life’s work.
Dr. Taylor recognizes that plastic surgery is a unique personal journey, and no two patients are alike in their thoughts, needs, desires, and circumstances. His extensive training affords him the knowledge and skills to tailor each treatment plan to realize these individual goals. Dr. Taylor is committed to delivering care to each of his patients with the same respect, confidentiality, and safety that he would want for his own family.
